How Employee Appreciation Will Make You a Great Leader

If you are in charge of some employees at work you undoubtedly want to be the best leader possible. But to be a good leader you have to be able to truly lead people, which requires them wanting to be lead and interested in really contributing what they have to offer. When people are unsure of their place in a company or distrustful of anything happening they will be much less likely to want to follow your lead. 

One very powerful thing to do is to introduce employee appreciation. Showing your employees that you're interested and supportive of their work will, in turn, make them respect you more as a leader and also strengthen their commitment to the job at hand. Strong employee appreciation programs will effectively create an atmosphere of support while also encouraging more good work. From your personal experience you can probably think of how enticing incentive based experiences can be, so why not work them into your workplace as well? We're not just talking end the year bonuses. How you set this up is going to depend on what your employees really want. If it's recognition in the company maybe an employee of the month program would work well. If it's time off perhaps you can award people with a half day off after they show up on time for 30 days straight. If it's an opportunity to advance perhaps you want to give them more opportunity to present their ideas to upper management, no matter what the topic is.

The more that people feel heard and seen the more comfortable they'll be, as long as it's coming from an inclusive place. You might want that when you're more involved in their day-to-day work that they also start to feel more comfortable talking to you. This can become even more valuable the longer that they're around.

The longer someone is working with you the more you should know about their goals and what you can do to create opportunities for all of you to move forward together.
